Splatshot is 4v4 capture the flag, played with Cataclysm's paintball guns. It's the first Anomaly: an experimental, limited-time game that's only open some of the time.
Why Splatshot Exists
Splatshot started life as a test. We built it to try out the new guns against something that fights back, and to do that, we built a brand new bot system: bots that can run the flag, escort their carrier, intercept the enemy and revive their teammates.
It turned out to be a lot of fun to play, so now we want to see how the bots hold up with real players: how well they play, whether they make matches better, and whether they're something worth building on. If you enjoy playing with them, we may start bringing bots into other games and modes. So tell us what you think in the Discord.
When Can I Play?
Splatshot is an Anomaly, so it isn't always open. When it is, it'll be announced in the lobby and you can join with /splatshot. Because it's a test, there are no coins, XP or rank rewards for it.
At a Glance
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Format | 4v4 capture the flag |
| Players | 1 to 8, and bots fill every empty slot |
| Map | Snowfall |
| Round length | 5 minutes |
| Lives | 1 per round, with knockdowns and revives |
| Starting overhealth | 10 golden hearts |
How to Win
Steal the enemy flag from its stand and bring it to the frozen fountain in the middle of the map. One capture wins the round. Wiping out the other team isn't enough: you still have to capture. If nobody captures in 5 minutes, it's a draw.
| Action | How long you hold crouch |
|---|---|
| Take the enemy flag from its stand | 4 seconds |
| Pick up a dropped enemy flag | 2 seconds |
| Score at the fountain | 6 seconds |
| Revive a teammate | 3 seconds |
While you're doing any of these, you take 60% less damage, and getting hit doesn't cancel it. You're still standing out in the open, though.
If the carrier goes down, the flag drops where they fell. A dropped flag goes back to its stand after 10 seconds, or straight away if its own team touches it. Your own flag doesn't need to be home for you to score.
Knockdowns
You only get one life per round, but lethal damage doesn't eliminate you straight away while a teammate is still up. Instead you're knocked down: crawling and glowing.
- For the first 1.5 seconds you can't be hurt. After that, enemy hits drain your downed health (10 hearts).
- You bleed out after 20 seconds.
- A teammate who crouches next to you for 3 seconds gets you back up with 3 hearts (no overhealth).
Kits
Pick a kit with the selector in your last hotbar slot before the round starts. Every gun is Legendary, and you get 99 rounds of each ammo type your kit uses.
| Kit | Guns | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Assault (default) | Pump Shotgun, SMG, Assault Rifle | The classic: shotgun up close, SMG and rifle for the rest |
| Marksman | Sniper Rifle, Assault Rifle, Pistol | Picking enemies off from range |
| Tactical | Tactical Shotgun, SMG, Pistol | Fast follow-up shots |
| Burst | FAMAS, Pump Shotgun, Pistol | Mid-range burst fire |
Every kit also gets 3 Bandages, 1 Medkit, 2 Small Overhealth Potions and 1 Large Overhealth Potion. Splatshot is the only place you can use the Sniper Rifle and the Tactical Shotgun.
Full stats for the guns and heal items are on the Cataclysm page.
The Bots
Bots fill every slot real players don't, so a match can start with just one person queued. Each bot takes a role: Flag Runner, Escort, Interceptor or Floater, and each role has its own kit. They're tuned to be good at the game, but not too good.
