Spooky season has officially arrived on Solaris. The Halloween Event is live right now, and it's running all the way until November 1st.

This is our first proper seasonal event, and honestly it's been one of the most fun things we've worked on in a while. The hub has been dressed up, there's a brand new daily hunt to do, a new way to earn coins, a limited title you won't be able to get once the month is over, and a handful of quality of life updates that landed alongside it. There's a lot to get through, so grab a pumpkin spice something and let's get into it.

Finding The Event

The heart of the event is the Halloween area in the hub. You'll know it when you see it: purple and orange everywhere, lanterns, pumpkins, a big Halloween sign, and a stage with a rather mysterious figure standing on it.

If you don't feel like walking, you don't have to. This update also adds the Map app to your phone (more on that further down), and the Halloween Event is one of the fast travel points on it. Open your phone, tap the map pin, click the Halloween Event and you're there. You can also find Travel Tilly around the hub, who'll open the map for you with a right-click.

The Grave Hunt

This is the main event, and it's something you can come back to every single day.

Every day during the event, 3 Glowing Graves rise up somewhere around the hub. They're not all in the Halloween area. They could be tucked behind a building, sat on a rooftop, hidden down a side street or out somewhere you'd never normally wander. Part of the fun is exploring the city to find them, so keep your eyes peeled for that ghostly glow.

When you find one, right-click it to pull a Soul out of the grave. You'll hear it, you'll see it, and you'll get a little title on screen showing how many of today's graves you've found so far.

A few important things to know about how graves work:

  • Every player can claim every grave. This isn't a race. If someone else finds a grave before you, it's still there for you to claim too. Nobody can steal your Soul.
  • Each grave can only be claimed once per player. Once you've pulled a Soul from a grave, that's yours for the day.
  • Claimed graves stop glowing for you. After you've claimed a grave it turns back into a normal, plain gravestone, but only on your screen. Everyone who hasn't found it yet still sees it glowing. That way you always know which graves you've already done at a glance.
  • New graves every day. The graves get moved to new spots each day, so even once you've found all three, there's a fresh set to hunt down tomorrow.

If you're short on time, that's fine. Three graves a day isn't a huge grind, it's meant to be a nice little thing to do whenever you hop on, whether that's a full evening of playing or five minutes before bed.

Souls

Souls are the event's currency, and they're a little bit special.

Souls are bound to you. Once you've got one, it stays with you. You can't drop them, you can't put them in chests or your locker, you can't trade them to other players, and you can't list them on the Marketplace. Even if you die, your Souls stay in your inventory. They stack up neatly in your inventory until you're ready to do something with them, which brings us to the figure on the stage.

The Soul Master

Standing on the stage in the Halloween area is the Soul Master, and she's very, very interested in your Souls.

Right-click the Soul Master to offer her one Soul, and she'll give you a random coin reward in return. Every Soul is a little gamble, and you never quite know what you're going to get. If you've been saving up and don't fancy clicking her a hundred times, sneak and right-click to offer all of your Souls at once. She'll roll every single one and tell you exactly what you got.

Each Soul you offer rolls one of four tiers:

  • Common (60%): 8 to 18 coins
  • Uncommon (25%): 20 to 30 coins
  • Rare (12%): 30 to 45 coins
  • Legendary (3%): 75 coins

Legendary rolls are rare, and we wanted them to feel like it. Land one and you'll get a big celebration on screen, and the whole server gets a little shout out letting everyone know you just pulled a Legendary Soul. Bragging rights included, free of charge.

There's no deadline on spending Souls during the event, so you can trade them in as you go or save them up and open a big batch all at once. Some people like the drip feed, some people like the jackpot moment. Both work.

The Hexed Title

Over by the stage you'll also find the White Pumpkin, selling something you're not going to be able to get anywhere else.

The Hexed title is a Halloween exclusive, and it's only available from the White Pumpkin for 1,000 coins while the event is running. You can buy it as many times as you like until November 1st. Once the event ends, it's gone, and it becomes an unobtainable title. If you want one for your collection, now is the time.

And yes, the coins you earn from trading Souls with the Soul Master go straight towards it. The whole event fits together quite nicely like that: hunt graves, collect Souls, trade them in, buy yourself a piece of Solaris history.

A New Look For The Witch Hat

If you own the Witch Hat, you might notice it looks a bit different now. It's had a complete remodel with a much more detailed model and a new texture, so it fits the season a lot better than it used to. You don't need to do anything, every Witch Hat in the game has been updated automatically.

Also In This Update

The Halloween Event is the big headline, but a few other things came along for the ride.

The Map app. Your phone now has a working Map app. Tap the blue map pin on your home screen and you'll get a full map of Solar City with every major location marked on it. Hover over any point to see what it is, and click it to fast travel straight there. You can jump to:

  • Spawn
  • The Marketplace
  • Apartments
  • The Bank
  • Jobs
  • The Halloween Event
  • The Fishing Isles
  • Callisto, the offices and server building of Callisto.host, our hosting company
  • The Solaris Building, home of the Solaris and Astrofox Studios team
  • The Town Hall, the future seat of Solar City's council (more on that one another time...)

The hub has grown a lot since launch, and getting around it was starting to feel like a bit of a trek. The map should make it much easier to get where you're going, especially if you're new and still learning your way around.

Travel Tilly. If you'd rather not dig through your phone, Travel Tilly is now out in the hub. Right-click her and she'll open the map for you.

Craig. You can now right-click Craig to open your mail. No need to open the menu every time you want to check whether anyone's sent you anything.

The delivery arrow. If you've done Package Delivery on certain GUI scales, you might have noticed the direction arrow disappearing off the bottom of your screen. That's fixed. The arrow now always sits just above your hotbar, no matter what GUI scale you play on or how big your window is.

New buttons. All of the buttons, sliders and text fields across the game have a brand new pink Solaris style. It's a small thing, but it makes the whole game feel a lot more like ours.

Game selector. The Back to Spawn button in the game selector has a fresh new look to match the rest of our UI.

Thank You

Seasonal events are something we've wanted to do for a long time, and this is just the start of them. We've got plenty more planned for the months ahead, and a lot of what we build next is going to be shaped by how this one goes. So please, tell us what you think. What did you love? What would you change? What do you want to see next time? Drop it all in the Discord.

If you run into any bugs while you're playing, report them in the Discord and we'll get on them as quickly as we can.

Happy hunting, and happy Halloween from all of us on the Solaris team. 🎃
